Analog and Digital Butterworth Filter design

The aim of this experiment was to design Analog and Digital Butterworth LPF and HPF using IIM and BLT. The scilab program was written to accept inputs as As, Ap, Fp, Fs, F(sampling frequency) and the magnitude spectrum was plotted to get the output. In BLT observed parameters are nearly matching to get exact values order must be increased. Digital LPF poles lie inside the unit circle this shows that both analog and digital butterworth filters are stable. In IIM method as frequency mapping is many to one, this method is suitable to design LPF but not HPF or BPF.
The experiment took long time to get completed. Because we didn't knew about HPF designing from IIM method can be performed or not and we were repeatedly trying to get output spectrum of HPF.

  2. Digital Filter is designed form Analog Filter.
BLT method can be used for designing any type of filter...

    1. Yes, frequency prewarping property of BLT makes it easy for designing of HPF, LPF, BPF, BSF and All pass filter.

  3. The digital filter design gives Denormalized Analog filter and Digital Butterworth filter.
There are some different filters like Chebyshev etc.

    1. Chebyshev filters have ripples in passband but Butterworth Filter gives maximally flat response within passband.

    1. The dominant conclusion of this experiment was IIM method cannot be used for HPF and BPF designing.

  5. By reading my conclusion is IIM gives aliased output which can be removed by the BLT but with cost of frequency prewarping
